About Maeni

Supplements and care for the years after 45

Maeni makes supplements for women from 45 on.

Around this age, the advice you get changes. From 50, the Dutch Health Council advises women to take extra vitamin D every day. Doctors, trainers and friends start to talk more about bones, muscles and energy. At the same time, a pharmacy shelf has dozens of jars that look alike, many with a blend of ingredients and no amounts on the front. Working out what is actually in them takes time.

We wanted a short range that is easy to compare and easy to keep up with. Each product has one clear purpose, with the amount of every ingredient on the label and on this site. You can take one on its own, or combine a few into a routine for the morning and the evening.

A note from us

It started with a trip to Japan.

When we travelled through Japan, one thing stayed with us. People there make time to look after themselves in small ways, every day, without making a big thing of it. It is simply part of the day.

Back home, we noticed how different it often feels here. Many women in their late forties and fifties want to take better care of themselves, but do not know where to start. The supplement shelf is full of jars that look the same, often without clear amounts.

So we started Maeni: a few products that each do one thing, with every amount on the label. Later we added skin, body and hair care, made the same way: a short range, with every ingredient on the product page. We hope it becomes one small, easy habit in your day.

The Maeni team

Why Maeni

A name taken from Japanese.

Maeni is built on 前 (mae), the Japanese word for ahead or forward. We chose it because the years around menopause are a stage you move through rather than an end point, and the years after it deserve as much attention.

In Japan this stage of life is called kōnenki (更年期). The first character, 更, carries the meaning of change and renewal, and the word describes a period of transition rather than an end point. Anthropologists such as Margaret Lock have written about how differently women in Japan and in the West have talked about these years.

That way of looking at it is what inspired us: taking care of yourself through small, steady habits, day after day, alongside good food and movement. Maeni is a Dutch brand and our supplements and care products are made in the EU, not in Japan. The name and the wave on our labels are a nod to that way of thinking.

How we chose the range

We started from the advice women over 45 are given.

From 50, the Dutch Health Council advises women to take extra vitamin D every day. The Dutch guideline is to eat fish once a week, preferably oily fish. And strength training and enough protein come up in almost every conversation about getting older.

Bone gives you vitamin D3 with K2. Omega and the stronger Omega Max are for the weeks without oily fish. Strong goes with strength training, and Collagen adds collagen and hyaluronic acid with vitamin C. Daily and Evening cover the basics: a multivitamin with minerals, and magnesium with vitamin B6.

Skin, body and hair

Care for skin that feels drier and hair that feels finer.

Many women notice that their skin feels drier and their hair finer in these years. So we added three short routines: an oil-to-milk cleanser, a day cream and a night cream for the face; a body wash, body oil and body cream; and a keratin shampoo, conditioner and shine mist.

Every ingredient and the scent are listed on the product page.

Supplements are one small part of a routine. The Health Council's advice for this stage of life is mostly about food and movement: fish once a week, enough protein, at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week and strength exercises twice a week. Our journal explains that advice, with sources.

Where it is made

All our supplements and care products are made in the EU. You can read the full label of every product on its product page before you buy: for supplements the dose per serving, the ingredients and the warnings, for care products the full ingredient list and how to use it.
